Go to the website. This is the site for the US Postal Service. They have all sorts of information for a new stamp collector. Large cities also hold stamp shows on a regular basis. My Aunt and Uncle actually own a stamp business and used to come from Oregon to the San Fransico Bay Area where we lived to sell their stuff at shows all the time when I was a kid. You could probably type in Stamp Shows into your web browser and they should show you cities that are having them. The dealers at those shows have millions of stamps and would probably love to help you learn about stamp collecting.

I’ve been collecting most of my life, and getting started is easy. Talk to everyone you know and have them start saving all the covers (envelopes) that they receive in the mail. Even if they don’t have stamps on them or if they think all the stamps are the same. There are many look-alike stamps and there are many types of meter stamps. (the ones printed on the cover) They are printed by quite a few companies and come in a wide variety of colors.
There are thousands of sellers on ebay and on-line, in the US alone there are an estimated 20 million collectors. The largest stamp organization in the US is the American Philatelic Society, just google that name and you”ll find their website. There might even be a stamp club where you live, ask at the public Library, many clubs hold meetings there.
Ebay has stamp clubs even Yahoo has stamp clubs, easily found by general searches.
